The Hermitage Station was established by David Reid who was a pioneer of this area. Reid commenced construction of the present homestead in 1852. It is situated on a gentle hill overlooking the surrounding plains and is constructed of local granite. It comprises a basement, principal floor and attic and is composed of a long gabled structure with a timber verandah across the main facade. There are several outbuildings, all constructed in stone.
